Overview

As a solo design project, I engineered a complex, fully functional mountain bike assembly from scratch, modeled as a replica of my own bike — the 2023 YT Capra. The design process required advanced SolidWorks workflows including multi-body part modeling, 3D sketching, surfacing techniques, precision mates, and detailed assembly management to ensure realistic motion, alignment, and manufacturability. Beyond modeling, I conducted motion simulations and structural analyses to evaluate real-world performance, placing particular emphasis on stress and strain behavior within the wheel spokes under variable loading conditions. This required defining accurate constraints, applying realistic forces, refining mesh strategies, and iterating on design decisions to optimize structural strength, durability, and weight efficiency while maintaining mechanical reliability.
